Chico Bar Triangle
Community Impact
Chico Bar Triangle provides 70 new affordable rental homes for low-income individuals and families in Chico, CA. The development, a collaboration between AHDC, Housing Authority of the County of Butte and the City of Chico, offers a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units serving residents earning between 30% and 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
The community includes a 2,802-square-foot building featuring a multipurpose room, kitchen, restrooms, manager offices, and space for on-site service providers—enhancing access to resident services and community engagement. Outdoor amenities such as a tot lot, picnic areas, and interconnected walkways promote social interaction, recreation, and neighborhood cohesion.
Environmental Impact
Chico Bar Triangle was designed with open green spaces and pedestrian-friendly pathways to encourage outdoor activity and reduce vehicle dependency within the community. The inclusion of centrally located recreation areas and landscaped spaces supports a healthy and sustainable living environment. The project’s site plan emphasizes connectivity, accessibility, and efficient land use consistent with the City of Chico’s sustainability and community design goals.
Economic Impact
The project was financed through 9% federal and state Low-Income Housing Tax Credits awarded in 2023 and a $14 million CDBG-DR loan provided by the City of Chico. Construction, which began in spring 2024 and completed in October 2025, generated local jobs and economic activity throughout the development period. Once occupied, Chico Bar Triangle will contribute to long-term housing stability and economic resilience by providing affordable homes close to employment, education, and essential services.
