The City of Paso Robles, in partnership with the Paso Robles Housing Authority and Affordable Housing Development Corporation (AHDC), announced two upcoming groundbreaking ceremonies for affordable housing developments: River Walk Terrace and Sunrise Villas. These ceremonies mark significant milestones in addressing the pressing need for affordable housing options within the city.

Work is beginning on a new affordable housing development for seniors in Paso Robles.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday, July 18 for the River Walk Terrace development located on Niblick Road just south of Kohl’s department store.

Nevada City’s first low-income housing project, Cashin’s Field opened in January and yesterday a ribbon cutting ceremony took place. The event featuring a number of local, state and state dignitaries. Shelley Covert, tribal spokesperson for the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe, thanked the developers, Nevada City, and the county for including the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe in the process as Cashin’s Field is in the heart of the Nisenan ancestral town of Ustama.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Nevada City Monday afternoon, local and state leaders officially celebrated the opening of Cashin’s Field.

Built on what was a vacant lot, Cashin’s Field is a 51-unit affordable housing complex near historic downtown Nevada City and the 7 Hills Business District, with a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

Today’s ribbon cutting ceremony at Cashin’s Field in Nevada City is the culmination of collaboration between multiple local and state agencies to bring an affordable housing project to the City of Nevada City in many, many years, if ever.

Building affordable, multifamily housing can be difficult in any city, but it is particularly cumbersome in California’s rural, mountainous communities. A lack of buildable terrain, funding, and skilled labor, as well as the ever-present threat of wildfires, create new layers of uncertainty for housing financing. Uncertainty is the last thing that any developer wants. Uncertainty usually means delays, which always means higher costs.
